'Tis the Season: How to Rent a Golf Cart Cheap on Carolina Beach This Winter
If you've only ever priced a golf cart in July, the winter numbers will surprise you. Here's how to actually take advantage of the season instead of assuming the island shuts down between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day.
The strategy: go long, not short
The single biggest lever is length of stay. Month-to-month costs far less per day than stacking short rentals — off-season months are quoted individually, and a month costs less than a single in-season week. If you're going to be around for more than a handful of days across the holiday season, booking one long term instead of several short rentals is almost always the cheaper move, not just the more convenient one.
It covers the holidays that actually bring people to the island
Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and the week around it, New Year's — all of it sits inside the same November 1 to March 1 window. Book once before the season starts and the cart is already there for family arriving for Thanksgiving, still there through Hanukkah and Christmas, and still there to ring in the new year, instead of coordinating a separate short rental for every visit.
Don't stop at New Year's — Valentine's Day is still in-season
The winter lease window runs all the way to March 1, which means Valentine's Day falls comfortably inside it. A quiet February evening cruise on an empty boardwalk, dinner reservations a golf cart away, no summer crowds — it's an underrated use of a winter lease that has nothing to do with the holidays and everything to do with the island being genuinely nice to drive around in February.
Winter parking is the quiet bonus nobody mentions
Two things work in your favor here, and neither is obvious.
First, Carolina Beach doesn't charge for most parking in the winter at all. Paid enforcement in standard lots and on-street spaces runs March 1 through October 31. For most of a November-to-March lease, the town parking that costs $25 a day in July is simply free. (Two premium lots on Carolina Beach Avenue North are enforced year-round — those are the exception, and no permit covers them anyway.)
Second, every JellyCarts LSV carries the town's annual LSV parking pass on the vehicle, and it's an annual permit, not a seasonal sticker that lapses when the summer rental season ends. So it's already live when enforcement resumes on March 1 — right at the tail end of the lease window, and right when spring break traffic starts. You don't pay to park in January, and you don't scramble for a pass in March. It's covered on both sides.

The real premier strategy: if you own the property, lease long-term
This is the one that gets missed most: if you own a vacation home on the island, or a property you run through Airbnb or a similar platform, a long-term winter lease is the strategy, not a fallback. Booking a fresh short-term rental for every set of winter guests is slower, more expensive over the season, and puts you back at square one each time availability gets tight. A single winter lease sits at your property the entire window — ready for your own use between bookings, ready for arriving guests without a separate reservation, and covered by that same year-round parking pass the whole time.
